How We Work

We offer compassionate support for individuals, couples, and families facing relationship challenges. Through counselling or mediation, our confidential approach helps you find tailored solutions and guides you toward healing and resolution.

Counselling

Our relationship counselling offers a confidential space to explore concerns and find solutions.

Opt 1: Counselling

Counselling offers a caring, confidential and supportive environment in which you can examine problems and think about ways to address them. Counselling can take place online via Zoom or in person in one of our venues.

In your first session you’ll be seen by a trained Relate counsellor who will ask you questions about your relationship and what you hope to get from counselling. They might also ask you about any problems you’re experiencing, when they started and what changes you would like to see happen.

If you want to book another session your counsellor will ask you what days and times are best for you and you’ll talk about the cost of your counselling. See our FAQ Counselling sheet.

You might meet only once, or you might meet once a week for an extended period of time. What kind of counselling you receive, and how long counselling continues, all depends on you and what kind of issues you want to address.

People come to see us for lots of different reasons.

You may be in a relationship where you’re arguing a lot or you might be struggling to talk to your partner. You might be thinking about ending your relationship or coming to terms with a break up.

You might be a couple who feel that your relationship could do with a MOT to make it even stronger or you’re a couple who have chosen to separate and want to do it in the healthiest way possible. Or you’re not in a relationship right now and want to look at why.

Whatever the issue, your counsellor will not judge you and everything you say will be confidential.

We understand that financial challenges can arise, and we are committed to offering affordable counselling services.

  • Discounted Initial Assessment: For a limited period, the cost of the first session is reduced to £60.
  • Ongoing counselling sessions (after initial assessment) are charged at £92.
  • The rate for our One Session Therapy Service is £75.

Mediation

Our mediation services help resolve conflicts and reach fair agreements without going to court.

Opt 2: Mediation

Mediation is an effective way to resolve disputes without going to court. Whether you’re going through separation or divorce, dealing with family or neighbour conflicts, mediation can help all parties reach a fair agreement.

If you’re separating, mediation can assist with arrangements related to children, property or finances. In the case of family disputes, mediation can help you find a solution without resorting to legal action.

Mediation offers several advantages over going to court:

  • It allows you to have more control over the outcome.
  • Mediation is typically quicker, more affordable, and less stressful than court proceedings.
  • It helps to minimise the emotional impact on children by encouraging cooperation between parents.
  • Initial Miam Meeting: £115 per person for a 45-minute session.
  • Free Mediation: For those on a low income, mediation can be free if you’re eligible for legal aid. Use the legal aid checker on gov.uk to find out if you’re eligible.
  • Family Mediation Voucher Scheme: If you have children, you may be eligible for a contribution of up to £500 toward mediation costs through the Ministry of Justice Family Mediation Voucher Scheme.
